Riu Tequila was created with attention to decor, beautiful gardens, and wonderful pool areas, and takes the limelight when it comes to affordability and family-friendly concepts! Located across the road from the Riu Yucatan and Riu Playacar, it shares exchange facilities so guests can also enjoy the nonstop entertainment at two more RIU Resorts. Just a short distance from the beach, a trolley winds through gardens past a raised gazebo bar to the beach club.
Old Mexico is featured throughout Riu Tequila. The lobby mimics a small village with grand pillars, arches, iron lanterns, and ceilings painted in swirls and decorated with mosaics. A trolley winds through lush tropical gardens past a raised gazebo bar in a courtyard and down to the beach club. The pool area is Hawaiian-style with boulders and waterfalls. Great carved doors open to the main restaurant, Jalisco, in early Mexican style with international buffets. The informal Lupita Restaurant offers poolside snacks.
This family-friendly resort offers a great vacation value, from live entertainment to an array of sports including non-motorized watersports. Kids will be entertained in the RiuLand Mini-Club and enjoy the playground and supervised activities. Adults can enjoy the nightlife at the popular La Pinata Disco with guests of the other Riviera Maya Riu Resorts. Complimentary 24-hour WiFi is also available in the common areas of the resort (available in rooms for an additional charge).
Accommodations are comfortable and have features such as a fully-stocked mini-bar and liquor dispenser. Junior suites with a living area are available, perfect for a little extra room.

What a fantastic hotel, any negative reviews totally ignore them.
Out here at the moment, what can I say, absolutely fabulous hotel from the staff to the food and the entertainment. We've had the unfortunate event of my wife being taken ill and needing to be hospitalised. If it wasn't for the help and care of Ana Sophia Moreno from the hotel management and the reception staff I would have felt very isolated. I can't thank them all enough and hope we get to enjoy the rest of our stay.

Honeymoon
We had an absolutely fantastic stay and would rate this hotel five stars without hesitation. The food and drink were genuinely some of the best we’ve experienced at an all-inclusive resort. The à la carte steakhouse in particular was excellent, and across the nine nights we stayed, we didn’t have a single bad meal. There was so much choice at breakfast, lunch, and dinner that it never felt repetitive. The staff were outstanding throughout our stay, always going above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Their friendliness and attention to detail really made a difference. We stayed in Block 28, which is towards the back of the hotel, and it was incredibly quiet. Before arriving, we had read a number of reviews mentioning noise at night, but we experienced none of that at all. It was completely peaceful, and we had a perfect night’s sleep every night. A big bonus is that you can also use the facilities at the nearby sister hotels, which gave us the option to enjoy the beach while still having access to great amenities, as this hotel is set slightly back. The sports bar was a great spot to watch football, and the drinks and cocktails across the resort were consistently excellent. We honestly couldn’t find a single fault with the hotel. We travelled as a couple on our honeymoon, and it was a brilliant experience from start to finish. That said, it’s also somewhere we would happily return to with children in the future, as there was plenty going on for them. The entertainment team were fantastic, with a special mention to Gustavo over at the neighbouring hotel, who really stood out and made some of our mornings with the classes he ran. This was our first time staying at this hotel brand, and it’s safe to say it won’t be our last. It has set a very high standard for future holidays. Thank you for such a memorable stay.

Great Hotel ruined by Humans.
In 2025 we spent a week in Cape Verde at a Rui Hotel via Tui. It was amazing and we had a great time and realized that Rui Hotels were the company for us. So when we looked at our holiday for 2026 we wanted to go with Tui / Rui again. We looked at Mexico because it was a country we hadn't been to before together so Rui Hotels in Mexico here we come. From Airport to Hotel the transfer was fantastic, no worries at all. Check in was brilliant and fast, suitcases taken to our rooms, no dramas there. We arrived late afternoon, so pretty much in time for dinner and both of us were fairly tired from the 10 hour flight. We went to the Steak house, ate and went to bed. Location Amazing grounds, wildlife and birds everywhere. For the first few days seeing Coatis walking around was a great thing to see. After that you realize they probably have a drink problem, because they are after your drinks. Don't get me wrong they'll have your food too if you're more than 10 centimeters from it. I literally had to wrestle a plate off of one that another guest had left on their sunbed before the guest disappeared. Which is pretty much what its like here. Rubbish left by humans, plates with half eaten food, drinks just left everywhere, even with staff constantly moving around picking them up. Pools There's 5 pools. A larger main pool, a sports pool where the activities were done every day, a pool of the same size nearby. a small kids pool with a slide and then a pool with a "swim up" bar, tables and stools just under the water. The other pools, absolutley fine. The "swim up Bar Pool"....didn't even get in it. People seemed to sit in here all day, and I wondered when they would every get out to use the toilets about 20 feet away. Always loud shouting coming from the English / American's sitting in the pool all day every day. One day someone even couldn't be bothered to get out of the pool to throw up, which meant it closed for the rest of the day. Lots of sunbeds everywhere, but mostly covered in towels left by people who had gone to the beach. Some days we never saw a single person come to towels left on the same beds every day, and this was a regular occurrence. Come 9am there'd be no sunbeds left with people wandering around trying to find somewhere. Dinner & restaurants Main restaurant was great, amazing selection of food, plenty of places to sit down. Very clean and just couldn't fault it. LOUD...VERY LOUD! Steak house Nice food, not the best but ok. Probably our favorite was the Mixed grill for two. If you didn't get there for 6pm, you'll be waiting around an hour to get a table. And its only open until 9.30pm. Remember I said previously when we first got to the hotel and was able to walk straight in? must have been a glitch in the matrix that night. LOUD...could barely talk to each other without shouting. Italian Worst of the bunch, food was not very italian. Wasn't very busy due to this but was still noisy. Bamboo Chinese restaurant which was the same buffet food every single day. You could get this at the main restaurant so didn't see the point of this restaurant really. again...LOUD...could barely talk to each other without shouting. Rooms Our room was in the "500" block, ground floor. The room was beautiful and we enjoyed seeing the different towel animals that Alejandro made every day for us. This guy is just the absolute tops! The problem with our room, was that other guests for the 4 or 5 blocks behind us, had to walk past our room to get to their own, so the foot traffic was alot. We also had a Coati (or multiple) that liked to sleep on our pool towels during the night. He (or she) would pull them off the towel rails on our little terrace, onto the floor and then go to sleep. So every morning we would wake up to find a coati asleep on our towels or asleep on our chairs, which our terrace would also be used as a toilet by said Coati. I also hoped it was just "mud" that the Coati had left on the white walls and not the gross alternative. Poor Alejandro who cleaned it every day. Other Guests This is where the Hotel falls off a very high and sheer cliff into the hotels long forgotten for me and why I wouldn't ever go back. The other guests just totally ruin it. So maybe I overlooked what to expect from a hotel called "Tequila", but we had booked a 5* all inclusive Rui Hotel, so was looking forward to a platinum experience. This Hotel was loud, pretty much 24 hours a day. Lots of noisy drunk guests shouting, playing drinking games with other guests during the day while the pools were open. The restaurants were loud, we really struggled to hear each other, and on more than a few occasions my wife got the hump because every time she was trying to talk to me I kept saying "huh?" which was obviously MY fault for not being able to hear her...Ha Ha! But the worst part for noise was at night. Pretty much every night until around 3am people were shouting, drinking around the pools, playing their own music, one night I was kept awake by a group learning to dance with each other right outside our terrace whilst blaring music. It was just horrendous and with 4 days left of our stay I was ready to go home by this point. I just did not want to stay there anymore. Some neighbors with a small baby next to us were moved due to the constant noise, I hope they found somewhere in the grounds that enabled them to get some sleep. We complained about the noise made by other guests to reception, which basically didn't go anywhere. We then complained to our Tui rep, who said they'd sort it....nothing happened. Days later of more inconsiderate guests we complained to the hotel again and yet again, nothing was done. So pretty much our second week was just trying to sleep whenever we could in between all the noise. I was expecting so much more from this hotel and have been seriously let down. I'm not sure I can even stay at another Rui after this. Even in the first few days of this trip we looked at Rui Hotels elsewhere in the world for 2027, but I don't think I can do it now. Some people will think that this is just an unlucky trip for us and that others may not have this issue, but I've seen on other reviews (on different dates) that we have not been the only ones to complain about how noisy everything is and how inconsiderate other guests are. Looking to have a quiet break away? - you will not find it here. Looking for a platinum experience and feel special ? - you will not find it here. Looking for a nice place to take your young children ? - you will not find it here. Looking for a loud (24hrs a day) venue where guests have absolutely no consideration for others at all - BINGO!

Last Minute Vacation
7 night stay . Nice rooms , great service all around from house keeping , poolside bar service to front desk staff . The A La Carte no reservation feature is excellent... it's a total pain in other surrounding resorts !! We ate at the Bamboo twice , Black Cow Steakhouse and the Italian . The Italian had the better steak which was a medallion/ fillet that cut with a butter knife. The golf cart trip to the beach was real quick . The beach area is beautiful as always and even after 10 a.m. was easy enough to get chairs for 4 . All sorts of activities like volleyball and water sports available. Vendors were not pushy and the women got there hair braided as well . There is a local market down the street with enough shops for all your needs and a 7/11 . Night entertainment was good and the Friday night Riu Party was packed and entertaining for all . Get there early by 6:30-7 for face painting etc... Cab fair to 5th Ave was $200 pesos each way and a great place to go for an off site dinner or mega shopping. I know I'm missing lots in this review but overall a great trip and place to stay . We are returning in Nov and staying at the Riu Yucatan. I should mention staying at the Riu Tequila, Yucatan or Playacar ... it's stay at 1 , play at 3 which is a bonus !!
