  Very good but room for improvement

  I love the Riu resorts but this had to be less then satisfactory in comparison to other Riu locations. Beach wasn't very clean, food was very bland and dry most meal times. Room was upgraded but very poorly maintained, usb outlets didn't work, mold and rust stains on mirrors and in showers. Repeatedly had to request same housekeeping and maintenance things, as the app would say they were done but never got done. The "free" shuttle to the blue mall is actually a drive to a souvenir shop that if you leave to go to the actual blue mall they refuse to return you to the hotel, regardless if you shop with them or not. A lot of scamming going on with taxis and the free rides. Resort is far from downtown. Uber was overpriced to leave resort, but thankfully, dirt cheap to return to resort (found out after we were abandoned at the souvenir shop).

  Thoroughly Enjoyed

  Enjoyed my stay at Riu Republica. Room was spotless as was entire resort. Service was great. Food delicious. Beach had white sand, no seaweed. Pools are salt water instead of chlorine which is wonderful. Several pools to enjoy. Will go back again.

  Great all inclusive for party people

  Lovely resort. lovely staff, lovely food & drink. great buffet & restaurants. lovely cleaners. Rooms adequate but tired and in need of rennovation. very few mozzies in April. We requested quiet rooms and stayed mainly in the garden side of the hotel & it was beautiful. However, sometimes (prob 50% pf our 11 days), right up to 4am, very drunk people argued, fought, partied or knocked on every room trying to find theirs. It was incredibly noisy. Some poeple were vile. Did you know that Spanish speakers cannot whisper and really do know all the words to the macarena? I do too now. Tips - you have to day nap take good earplugs and you will be fine.

  bad experience

  I would have to say from the start it was bad took about 2 hours to check in, we got there at midnight, it was not as if they did not know we were coming, finally we got settled in our room and got all unpacked the next day and then they wanted to change our room we did not want to change rooms, so this was a big fight over this and finally they left us where we were. The food was just so so , my 2 sisters and myself got a lot of bug bites not sand flees, i myself had 35 bites, each one swelled and itched terribly bought to kinds of cream nothing helped, the beach was beautiful and all kinds of beach chairs and the pools were beautiful. i will not go back to this resort. When we got on the bus to go to airport i was asking if any others got bit at other resorts and no body had.

  All Riu's are NOT created Equal

  The first impression of the hotel was good. We arrived, stood in line to check in and about 15mins later, we were given drinks. The room was not as expected. The walls had water stains and the walls were wet. The bed was horrible and the pillows swallowed you. The cleaning staff was just rude. They never spoke back when you said good morning or buenos dias. Cleaning is sub par. Left a shoe in the hallway for 2 full days before it was picked up. The iron was missing water cap and got water all over my clothes. Ceiling fan won't turn on. The shower leaked onto the floor from the crack in the glass partition. If you aren't careful, you can slip while walking into the bathroom. Cleaning crew is so loud when they clean. Its 9am and they are yelling and singing. I'm on vacay and all of that disrupts your peace. The food was not good. We spoke to others at the resort and unfortunately, was glad that they shared the same food experience. The mosquitos were horrible at the resort!!!!!! We were expecting beach cabanas, but got broken beach chairs on a hill of palm trees. We've stayed at Rui Jamaica and loved it! For us, it is not a recommend.
