    Disappointing stay

We stayed for five nights, but unfortunately our experience got off to a frustrating start. I had added my son to the booking three days before arrival. Virgin advised that this could be done at check-in, but I also contacted the hotel directly and received confirmation from reservations that a note had been personally added to my booking. However, reception couldn’t find this and I had to show them the email, which delayed check-in. We were eventually given room 404. At first, the room seemed fine, so we unpacked and went out. After a long day, we returned and went to bed, but the sofa bed my daughter slept on (she weighs less than 8 stone) squeaked every time she moved, keeping us all awake. I reported this to reception the next day. The staff member I spoke to was polite and relayed the issue to his supervisor, who simply shook her head and did not come to speak with me. I was told there was nothing they could do, despite us having four nights remaining. On the fourth day, maintenance randomly came to inspect the bed but only pressed on it rather than properly testing it. I got my Daughter to lie down so they could hear the noise. They adjusted the springs, and housekeeping added blankets underneath, but neither solution worked. I was told the bed could only be replaced if multiple guests complained! Additionally, when the sofa bed was in use, it blocked access to both the fridge and the curtains. On the second night, the same noise issue occurred, and the TV also turned itself on four times during the night. As reporting issues hadn’t helped previously, we simply unplugged the TV each night. The bathroom was clean, but the shower door didn’t close properly, causing water to leak onto the floor. The bathroom wall to the hall and bedroom are opaque glass so you can see if someone is in the shower. The door is a sliding one so there is very little privacy when you are in as there is a gap all the way round. This isn't good or a family with older children or guests that are friends. Breakfast was another letdown. We expected queues, but not the extremely cramped layout. There was very little space between tables, making it difficult to move around, especially with plates and drinks. The curved chair backs made this even worse as they didn’t tuck under the tables. The food itself was good, but accessing it was challenging due to the layout. For example, the juice station was positioned near the hot food queue, so you had to interrupt others to get a drink. By the time you navigated back to your table, hot food was often cold. Pastries and bread were stored in plastic bins above the hot food, which were difficult to see into (especially as I’m 5’2”). The fresh fruit was nice, but again, everything felt too cramped. Overall, we were very disappointed with our stay and would not recommend this hotel. While we tried to not let it spoil our first trip to New York, we do wish we had chosen somewhere else.

    EXCEPTIONAL.

This was my 1st stay at a RIU property. I was quite impressed with the hotel and its offerings. The rooms, the breakfast and the staff were, for the most part, delightful. Fernando, the front desk agent who handled my check-in deserves extra credit for his friendliness and efficiency. He helped me sort out changing rooms because of an extended stay. It was done quickly and flawlessly. He is a great representative of the RIU brand and should be recognized as such.

    Stay Well Clear

Arrived Today checked into hotel booked via booking.com and absolutely disgusted with the room we have been given We have a 2 year old daughter who has went straight for the window which is a low level window with a latch that is broken ans hanging loose and she keeps going to open it and we are terrified what could happen if left unseen for a few seconds Spoke to a chap called Pedro who is a manager or he says his a manger if he is a manager he needs to attend hospitality seminars his reply was they are all like this so can’t really move you to a different room and we are fully booked (funny he says this as they were trying to sell me a upgrade for 30 dollars per night on check in so he sent a maintenance chap up who has tried to fix the handle but couldn’t we then asked if we good leave the hotel and find an alternative place and get a refund as our bags were still not unpacked Gets worse had a shower as leaving the Bathroom the bedroom area soaking with water which has been dripping through the seals of shower door or wall Which explains why the laminate flooring in bedroom area is all damaged too Shower gel and shampoo on usage falls into the sink bowl Every one do yourselfs a favour stay away from this property I am speaking to Booking.com in the morning to see what they can do about this as will have to leave this property and find alternative Absolutely Fuming and raging with anger

Staff let themselves into our room whilst we were in there.

Location was great and the beds were comfortable but that was really the highlight of the hotel. We were on our honeymoon and paid a bit extra for a ‘better room’. First impressions getting to the room - the door was all chipped and there was a big gap at the bottom on the door and we were located outside the lifts. The room itself was a decent size and wasn’t cramped. The shower leaked every time we used it so we had to lay towels on the floor. It looked like someone had taken a saw to the sides of the tray and put in a number of grooves. We only had the room cleaned once when we were there… after it had been done we were relaxing in our room. We heard a tap… not a knock… it was so quiet we thought we’d miss heard. A few seconds later a women let herself into our room! Then was asking if we were satisfied with how the cleaners had cleaned the room! This is completely unacceptable- fortunately we were just sat talking… It was a nice hotel however not quite up to expectations. We had a nice honeymoon but I wouldn’t describe the hotel as anything more than average.

    SENSATIONAL!!!!

We loved our 7 night stay here! Felt like home. We were sad to leave. Great location- just away from the noise and hustle of the main Times Square area. Fantastic restaurants along side hotel (we went to a place called Bar Dough every night- awesome ) Breakfast was sensational - we ate in the restaurant /bar area - no real long wait - much nicer than the main breakfast area. Front desk service excellent. Only negative ( small issue) was that bathroom wall close to the beds/ main room area is transparent glass and when the light in the bathroom is on - it fills the room - not good for late night/ early morning. Apart from that - 10/10. If we ever come back to NY- will stay here again without hesitation
