  Stay away from the on-site shops

  The hotel, staff and food are amazing, however, £22 something for a bag of Ruffles and Cheetos just takes the absolute biscuit. Warning to anyone staying here steer well away from the on-site shops, do not make my mistake! It kills me to say this hotel is average, you can’t knock anything here, anything apart from the shop. It’s cheaper to go to the salon than it is to buy 2 bags of crisps. Oh and be vigilant of the notes you exchange, we’ve not left the complex and changed money in this hotel only, yet they would not change a note they exchanged the previous day as they believed it to be ‘counterfeit’…

  LARGER

  If you're a larger drinker like myself, think twice about booking here! Never in my lifetime of holidays have I ever known any all inclusive hotel to run out of larger and this hotel is apparently a 5 Star hotel ! Just letting you know, apart from from that pretty good considering the covid times at the moment .

  My Romantic Trip to Riu Negril

  The service was excellent; all the staff were courteous and well-mannered. Our bell-boy at check-in deserves special mention: He acted as if Riu was 'his' baby and it reflected in his demeanor as we walked and talked with great pride. My babe is very fussy when it comes to food and when you hear him say say he was satisfied at every meal you knew that the meal was perfect. We especially enjoyed the jerk chicken, fried rice, fresh fruits, fish, patties, yellow yam and sweet potatoes and that it was served buffet-style at the Green Island Restaurant. When we discovered that there was a creamy delicious Coconut ice-cream available, we made sure to leave space for this delectable dessert after every meal! We also loved the Bob Marley, Pina Colada and Mango & Paw Paw smoothie served at the Steak House. It was quite refreshing to see female bartenders showcasing their skills! Kudos to them! There were three downsides regarding food: the jerk chicken at the jerk pit was tasteless and over salted, the beef at the Green Island was as tough as leather and the food served at the Steak House was simply warmed up and left much to be desired. We quickly learned to take extra patties up to our room for late-night snacking! We thoroughly enjoyed the Nightly Entertainment, particularly the section where guests has to make the sound of their favorite animal while dancing the 'dutty wine' and believe me the results were hilarious! The singer they had singing some oldies but goodies and Lovers Rock had us rocking and cheering late into the night. All Covid-19 protocols were in place and we were able to wear masks/social distance and we were required to put on a plastic glove on our serving hand for the restaurant which I thought was a novel idea. The rooms were comfy and clean and we enjoyed the hot water showers and use the gym one morning because we got there early that morning. We were hoping/planning to go there again because we loved it so much, for our next vacay but we are not sure because there is a 3/4 night minimum and I can't use my points. I guess we will see what happens!

  Best holiday ever, YA MAN 🇯🇲

  Best holiday ever for us. This was our first ever visit to Jamaica and the Caribbean for that matter so we expected it to be special but we could not ask for much more than the riu provided. I’ll break it down in short for anyone considering staying here. People were impeccable, there were so many staff, all of whom could not do enough for you. The bar and restaurant staff were fantastic as were any cleaners that you would see around the hotel. The animation team were brilliant also and always took the time out to come and speak to us and check how our stay was going. Everyone made a huge fuss of our daughter Bella every time they seen her which made her first ever holiday even more special and enjoyable. I think a large factor of this point is down to the good, helpful friendly nature of the Jamaican people as a whole, however they excelled in this resort. Food, I thought was excellent. Best food we have ever had in an all inclusive. Usually after the first week of a 2 week holiday I am absolutely sick of eating in the restaurant (and have been made physically sick by the food/ water) however this was not the case at the Riu Negril. Plenty of selection across their 5 restaurants; steakhouse, Italian, french, Chinese, buffet - as-well as the jerk hut on the beach. All were of a good standard also and you could always find something to suit your taste. Our baby daughter was well fed and happy with the food throughout aswell as us. Everything was very clean and there was never an issue from my point of view. Sometimes the wait times to get into some of the restaurants was a little lengthy, but the hotel have a buzzer system figured out so that the wait in busy times is not too inconvenient. Plenty to see and do at the hotel. Water sports, most of which are included. You can also take a boat trip directly from the hotel to ricks cafe which we did and was fantastic. Entertainment was a little lacklustre at times in the evenings and I feel could be improved. Could be Quite repetitive at times and the inclusion of a decent singer or 2 I feel could improve the evening entertainment tenfold and get the crowd going a little more although the brilliant animation team do a good job of making a good atmosphere regardless. Location I feel is good, BE AWARE there is a free shuttle bus every day at 11:30am that takes you to margaritaville which is in the middle of seven mile beach. It’s only a short 5 minute ride but this beach is not to be missed. Margaritaville is not the reason to take the bus, if you do take the trip, walk left (or right) along the beach for some of the best beaches and sea swimming you can find. Look out for the flurries of sting rays too which is amazing to see! The beach at the hotel is decent. And there is a good beach bar. Only issue I’d say with the beach bar is they could do with a bug zapper as it is swarmed by wasps in the day. Must be very annoying and painful at times for the bar staff to cope with nevermind anyone else. The sand on the beach is a little gravely compared to if your walk down to the sister hotel or it’s even better on seven mile, and there’s quite a lot of seaweed in the sea at the riu beach. Although this does not prevent having a great time in the ocean here and actually attracts more fish. Beware of the jelly’s! I managed to make it until my lady’s day swimming in the sea til I got triple stung, don’t be put off though, was only uncomfortable for maybe 30 mins - 1 hour. All part of the experience swimming in the Caribbean!?! Hotel itself is always immaculate and there is constantly somebody cleaning the floors. Sports bar 24/7 (it is ice cold in here) great nachos, burgers and other snacks as well as non stop drinks if you’re to need them. Also show most international live sports in there apart from the odd one game they could not find. So overall, a fantastic hotel in my opinion. Other people may have a different stance as may perhaps be further travelled than me and my young family, but in my experience it was absolutely perfect for what we wanted and we have totally fallen in love with Jamaica through this holiday. So sad to be home today! Thanks Riu. One love

  Mini Vacation

  My overall experience at Riu Negril was a enjoyable one. Just one issue I had, the distance from the main lobby to my room was a lengthy one, wish I had a caddie cart at my disposal.....lol. The staff with whom I interact were pleasant and helpful.
