  EXCELLENT stay in Maui

  This resort is amazing! This was our first visit to Maui, so we had no real expectations other than what we have read or heard. This resort EXCEEDED all expectations! The cleanliness of the room, access to pools, access to beach, cleanliness of the grounds and gardens - the list goes on and on. While the islands were bombarded with multiple Kona lows prior to our visit, the upkeep and attention to detail on the grounds was impressive. Crews were silently working in the background to improve water run-off, and were never in the way of the guests, nor intrusive on our visit. I dare say, unless you were looking for them you probably wouldn't even know they were there! Hats off to the resort - and the workers - for their attention to these details during a very difficult situation on the islands. Again, the resort was very impressive. Ours was a studio, perfect for the two of us. The kitchen - which included all necessary appliances (ie fridge, dishwasher, stove, oven, microwave) - added to that sense of home. While we used some of these (we ate out for lunch/dinner), we could definitely see the bonus of eating in during our next visit. The in-room washer and dryer were perfect, as it allowed us to do laundry and avoid over packing! Detergent, fabric sheets, dish soap, dishwasher soap - all included! As well, there is a grocery store just across the street, as well as Target/Costco right outside the airport when you arrive. Dining on site with Duke's was excellent! As well, you have the option to walk to other resorts and their restaurants using the beach boardwalk. Excellent way to walk off bfast, lunch, or dinner! Everything about this resort was top notch - the presentation of the open-air entry to the hotel, overlooking the gardens and ocean, is a sight in and of itself! The cleanliness of the rooms/bathroom, pools, grounds, beach, etc. show great attention to detail. On site is also the ability to book excursions. Note there are 2 options on site - one at the towel center right behind Dukes, and the other is at the main desk (concierge). The concierge has many options, and books from the whole island. That's who we used for whale watching - which was excellent, even for mid-April! As the snorkeling was superb right there at the beach (coral, fish, turtles), we did not see the need to book a special tour. From the beach, we were able to witness a pod of dolphins go by, whales surface - and in one instance - breach the surface! What an excellent time! Again, our stay at this resort more than EXCEEDED our expectations! We will definitely return!

  Stay away from this place

  Staying at the Outrigger Honua Kai currently. I really want to like this place however there are some negatives I just cannot get past including: 1) I had a package delivered and the security team gave it to someone else so now I am out hundred of dollars 2) The bed sheet is too small for the mattress so it comes off every night so my face rubs touches up against the bare mattress which doesn’t feel overly sanitary. I asked for a larger bed sheet and was told they do not have larger sizes. Otherwise the property is decent but I personally prefer to stay at Westin, Marriott, or Hilton when I come to Hawaii as I've never had these kind of problems when I have stayed with those brands.

  Honua Kai Room 1026

  Maui is absolutely beautiful! I don’t even know where to start with Room 1026. Ken was phenomenal—he was always readily available to answer any questions and was a great host. The walk to Whalers Village was about 20–30 minutes depending on your pace and how many times you stop to take pictures along the way (which you definitely will because the views are amazing!). This condo had everything you could think of. Although we didn’t use the beach toys due to the water advisory, it was nice that they were available. If you are wanting a full ocean view, this may not be the condo for you. You only get a small glimpse if you look to the left. This is more of a garden/resort view rather than an oceanfront view. Overall, it was a wonderful stay and we would definitely come back.

  March visit

  I believe that if the property described itself as a I condominium project offering tourist accommodation in privately owned suites and not as a hotel or resort, guests may have a better understanding of what to expect, perhaps cutting back on some of the negative comments received. With the exception of the poor bathroom lighting, our one bedroom suite 718, was in good condition, clean with decent carpets, furniture, flooring and appliances. Looking at all the complaints from other visitors, the property should set a strict standard as to how owners must maintain and upgrade their units, if they wish to keep them in the rental pool. Management would need to inspect all rentals to ensure they meet the standards. Again this procedure would cut way back on complaints. It should not be lottery as to if you arrive to a great of poor suite. With not enough seating around the pools or the inability to make meal reservations at a reasonable time was a big disappointment, and spoilt the stay. Should guests have to arrive first thing in the morning or as the sun is setting to enjoy seating around the pools? The pools lack any supervision, a couple of adult pools would make the difference. To be told, with a big smile, that you cannot make reservations for a meal, because other guests had made reservations six months ago just sucks! So the bottom line is simple, if you want to be guaranteed a nice room with easy access to a pool or dining facilities, (any amenities) stay in a hotel, not this place. The management/owners should be very concerned that the number of negative reviews had increased greatly in recent years as opposed to reviews years past, this is not a good trend.

  Good for families

  Better for families than couples as there are lots of kids enjoying the pools. Only one on-site restaurant, Dukes, which was very good. There was usually a wait of 45 mins to be seated at busy times in the evening. Lots of other restaurants within a 10 minute drive. Rooms are spacious and well equipped with cooker, microwave and dishwasher. There's a small onside market selling basic foods, etc Nice beach and pools but sun loungers in high demand so expect to pay $15 for a deckchair unless you are out before 8am. Check in process could be better. Its a large complex and takes a few minutes to find your way around at first. They provide a Qr code to scan with more info.
