Honest review
This was my first time in the DR and we booked this resort despite reading multiple mixed reviews. My friend and I booked a 14 nights stay and we were actually quite impressed - the grounds are simply beautiful, really well-kept with addition of a few peacocks, iguanas and loads of cats which made it more fun plus there is daily evening entertainment in the lobby. I'll review each element individually: 1. Rooms Yes, the resort would benefit from a little upgrade but from our point of view, the rooms are lovely and spacious, we never experienced any maintenance nor cleanliness issues and AC was working 100%. Suggestion: please arrange a rack for drying wet clothes at the terrace. 2. Restaurants We tried only Rumba Dominicana and Tauro - food at both was delicious, can't complaint plus service friendly and attentive. When it comes to Mercado (buffet), we had a little concern hier - the staff was friendly, however very slow. Sometimes we had to chase them for glasses and water - one waiter brought the glasses and 10 minutes later, another finally brought water to our table. I worked in hospitality myself but this was the only negative element I have to highlight. Sometimes we saw 5 of them chatting and laughing instead of speeding up or paying more attention to the guests...this needs to be improved. As for the food in Mercado, I personally liked it, it was never cold like some people say here and we were also happy with the choices. Just one suggestion perhaps: please try to arrange self service water dispensers- and your guests won't need to chase your staff. Instead, your staff can focus more on cleaning tables and preparing them for new guests (especially to avoid long queues for dinner at around 8pm). 3. Beach Absolutely amazing and wonderful, clean. Apart of the seaweed we really loved it!!! But don't worry, they tidy up the beach from seaweed daily. Plus there is 24/7 security making you feel safe. 4. Pool Nothing to fault here, always clean and we enjoyed having drinks at the pool bar. 5. Gym Very clean and I recommend you to use it daily as all you can eat buffet might reflect on your looks in a few days lol. Overall experience: we absolutely loved our stay and despite mentioning what could be improved, we would definitely choose this resort again! Thank you Melia, we had a wonderful holiday.

Melia caribe is a Paradise but needs some service improvements
Melia Caribe is a beautiful resort with really nice amenities. We went with a group of 20. The Level upgrade rooms is not well explained. We. Upgraded our room and not our kids and found out when arriving our kids could not partake in some of the restaurants and the level pool. We upgraded it so they could. We were very pleased with our rooms. The service was hit and miss. The staff didn’t always seem enthusiastic about helping but sometimes it was truly a language barrier. Our group was supposed to get a $150 per room credit. Which was misleading because it was coupons to use for different upgrades and the spa but can only use one per experience. Some of the group never received the coupons. We did find a staff member Reynardo Sanchez and he was fantastic. We appointed him our personal concierge and he helped with reservations and transportation and answered all questions. All restaurants except buffet require reservations and they are very hard to come by. They must be booked on kiosks that often don’t show availability l. However, we would go in restaurants that were almost empty While we had some frustrations, the resort was truly a paradise. My recommendation would be definitely sign up for the level upgrade. It just gives more options.

Had wonderful holiday - highly recommend
We stayed at this resort for 7 nights and had a wonderful experience from start to finish. The service was excellent throughout our stay, with friendly and attentive staff, efficient room service, and a great selection of food and drinks available at the restaurants and bars. The pool area and beachfront were definitely highlights of the resort—beautiful, relaxing, and very well maintained. The entire property was spotless and clearly cared for to a high standard. Whether you’re travelling as a family with children, a couple, or a solo traveller, I would highly recommend this resort. We had no concerns at all during our stay; everything exceeded our expectations and made for a fantastic holiday. Airport only 20-25mim away and more accessible to excursions and other activities.

I would not recommend to anyone
My review is coming from a middle class USA citizen point of view. It was just me and my teenage daughter who visited. Positives: *The resort is very pretty when you walk in and the grounds are pretty. Iguanas and peacocks on property were fun to see. *Room was fine. Weird splashes of paint or something all over bathroom mirror but in general clean. *Our favorite part of the resort surprisingly was the kids splash pad section. We were always able to get lounge chairs there and the pool was clean. It was actually pretty quiet despite being the kids section. Now the bad and why I will never go there again or recommend anyone go there. The food situation is awful. AWFUL. Everything including the restaurant food tastes like old, stale, not fresh at all food. Things that are supposed to be hot are cold and things that are supposed to be cold are hot. The restaurant reservation system is an absolute joke. Our stay was booked to start on Saturday but due to flight issues we didn’t arrive until Sunday. According to the front desk we were not eligible to make restaurant reservations until the day after we checked in even though technically we were already on the 2nd day of our stay. I went to the one kiosk in the whole entire gigantic resort to make reservations @ 645am the next day for dinner the next 3 days and there was not one reservation available. I went to the front desk person who was on his phone and super rude who told me to wait until after 800am to talk to another lady. I went and talked to her and she was downright nasty. Rolling her eyes and acting like it was an inconvenience to help me. She made a reservation for 2 dinners for us. So 2 dinners for a 5 night stay. But after eating at the restaurants the reservations didn’t really matter because the restaurant food was terrible too. The food highlight for us was the Lays chips in the room which I practically had to beg for the 2nd day. There is nowhere on resort to get snacks or even buy a snack. Ice cream at the splash pad was about it. We ended up going to an Italian restaurant a couple of times in the Fun Republic place across from the resort. We did come across several nice staff members but I couldn’t believe how rude some of the others were. I have more I can say but this is already too long! 😬 All in all I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Wow what a nightmare
Mmm tough review, let’s gets strapped in cause despite the fancy photos and the outstanding reviews it normally gets, this resort is, without a doubt in my mind one of the worst there is, not only just in terms of cost, which is exorbitant, but every thing that makes a resort a resort is fundamentally wrong, we will get started with the service, which could be best described as having a bunch of children writing the training routines for that staff which are as clueless as they are downright dishonest, we lost a hat due to moving rooms, not the worst you would normally think, just go report it as lost and it will be found, then explain me needing to hunt down the staff in charge of the room and bribing them to “find” it in the so called “ treasure trove”. Saddle-backing of the maids, we stayed for 7 days and only 3 times were our rooms serviced, despite the clear sign on the room, and only ONCE did we receive fresh towels, when we rang the front desk to complain about that, we were told with absolutely assurance someone would be coming right away to service the room, ( considered me shocked when that turned out to be nothing but a hopeful thought) And I really hope you enjoy the food at the buffet because unless yet again you throw more money at the problem, you will NOT have a chance to try anything else due to the poor reservation system they have in place, the main pool area while looking good and some of the staff who actually seemingly enjoy there job, is riddled with yet more problems, cause the disrepair state the pool is in, and the mould growing due to the lack of actual cleaning, I would make sure you have a strong immune system if you wish to get through your stay without picking up something, the late night entertainment while at times fun, is sporadic and poorly planned so good luck knowing what is going on and at what time, now I know I have covered almost all things, the main shining star of this resort is the beach, something the resort do very little interaction with ( no wonder it is good!! ). My final note is stay clear of talking to any people who are going around on behalf of any the resort amenities, we unfortunately got caught one day, one of our group thought a spa day sounded nice, showed interest, but only in an informal conversation, no dates, times or even package chosen. That somehow got turned into a $120 surprise charge at checkout, which we had to pay just to get off the resort, Soooo in short, - Staff 1/5 (that is being generous ) - Food 2.5/5 (not bad if you enjoy the same thing over and over) - Ammenitis 2/5 ( the beach doing the heavy lifting ) - Cost 0/5 ( overpriced and underwhelming) Soo in terms of a review, STAY VERY FAR AWAY if even remotely thinking about this resort
