    A great, relaxing vacation

Really enjoyed our vacation here. Both the property and rooms were really nice. The coral area is good if you want a more relaxed experience. Loved being so close to the beach, and having a pool that looked right onto the beach. There were a good amount of loungers and beds, though the front beach ones can go fast. Rooms were nice. Enjoyed the jetted tub on the balcony and the rainfall shower. Could hear the waves while in the tub, even on higher floors. Had USB power outlets and light controls by the bed. We were surprised by how much fun we had doing all of the activities run by the entertainment team. Quentin, Ruben, Jesus, and Edgar were all great. They had beach volleyball, activities in and around the pool area, and played music throughout the day. Our day was always brightened by a wave hello from Quentin. Shows in the evening were also good (fire and broadway were our favourites), and we liked that they had some seating outside so we could watch during dinner. Food was tasty; both the buffet and a la carte menus. Good selection and quality, and felt safe eating fruits (which they had a lot of) and salads. Grill station at the buffet for eggs/omelettes at breakfast, and all sorts of meats (including lamb) at lunch. They dont have lobster for parts of the year to help sustain their population, so something to keep in mind for seafood lovers. The shrimp tacos at the beach bar were tasty though. Good drink selection. We loved the pina coladas and mango daiquiris. Guest services took issues seriously and handled them well. Staff also went above and beyond to make my birthday nice. One of the chefs Darling asked what food I had liked and made some sushi and a small personal cake for me. The staff in general were all very friendly and attentive. All in all, a great and relaxing vacation. Would recommend, and already thinking about when we can return.

    Terrible experience

I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience and feel compelled to share feedback at an executive level. I chose this property based on a prior positive experience at your Jamaica location, but unfortunately, this visit fell far short of expectations. As a result, I will not consider staying at another Iberostar property in the future. To provide context, I paid over $2,000 for a three-day stay and an additional $325 for an upgrade. Given that level of investment, I expected a reasonable degree of flexibility and customer-focused service. Unfortunately, that was not the case. During my stay, I prepaid approximately $400 for add-on experiences, including a private beach dinner (~$350) and a champagne/strawberry package that was never delivered. Upon reviewing the dinner menu, it did not align with our preferences, so I approached the staff with a straightforward request: instead of issuing a refund, I asked if the value could be reallocated toward a golf round and a massage of similar total cost. This request was denied without flexibility. What makes this particularly frustrating is that, upon arrival, I was approached by concierge staff offering a complimentary golf and massage package in exchange for attending a timeshare presentation. This clearly demonstrates that the resort has the ability to offer these experiences, yet was unwilling to accommodate a paying guest who had already spent a significant amount on the property. To be clear, I was not asking for anything additional—only for a reallocation of funds already paid. A simple accommodation would have significantly improved our experience and likely resulted in greater overall satisfaction, including additional discretionary spending. Instead, the rigid policy and lack of customer-focused decision-making created a negative experience that outweighed the value of the stay. Additionally, the overall experience did not meet expectations in terms of authenticity or quality. For a resort in Mexico, the food and beverage offerings lacked authenticity—for example, missing basic elements typically expected in local cuisine, which further detracted from the experience. I want to emphasize that the frontline staff were courteous and professional. This feedback is directed at management policies and decision-making, which appear to prioritize short-term revenue protection over long-term guest satisfaction and brand loyalty. I strongly encourage your leadership team to re-evaluate how guest concerns and reasonable requests are handled. A more flexible, customer-first approach would go a long way in retaining guests who are willing to spend at your properties. Sincerely, Joe DeAngelis

    Better than expected

We stayed at the coral selection for the first time and will definitely be back. It is essentially its own resort next to the regular iberostar. We felt it was almost more like an intimate boutique resort, but with all the amenities of a large resort. Granted, we were only there Monday thru Friday, but we never felt like it was overly crowded. We enjoyed a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Everyone we encountered was extremely friendly and made us feel welcome. As most, we spent a lot of time by the pool and loved the staff. Our main server during our trip was Carmen and we absolutely loved her. There are also games throughout the day and are fun to get involved or just watch. The beach location is amazing and there can only be a few resorts that have direct access to the beach like this one. Most others have a large barrier between the pool and beach. The coral is only a few steps and you are on beautiful sand. There was a little seaweed when we went in April, but not much. Plus they have a guy out there almost every morning with a tractor picking it up. The coral buffet is small, but I liked the selection. They also have a taco / burger place for lunch by the pool. They also pull out grills to cook up different meats by the pool. But you always have the option to eat at all the other restaurants at the regular iberostar. We went early (530/6) and never waited for a table. You do have to reserve the Japanese restaurant. We didn’t use the spa or gym this trip, so I can’t comment on that. The room itself was amazing and the views are perfect. Every room has a good view. All in all, we were more impressed than we thought we would be and can not wait to come back.

We got the old “bait and switch”! Paid full price for not being able to use most of the resort!

My wife and I chose this lberostar because we stayed at Iberostar in Jamaica and loved it! This time however we got the old “bait and switch”! We arrived at the hotel and on the way to the adult side were surprised at the number of unaccompanied children running about. Upon check in we were informed by the concierge that a large group just came in and had booked the entire main hotel of the resort and some of the coral side as well. We didn’t think much of it and went about our business- first thing we found out was the app was not updated with current info. Second thing we found out was when we tried to book dinner reservations through the app every restaurant said times were “unavailable “. When we asked the front desk about this they told us that all of the restaurants at the resort with the exception of 2 were not available to us due to being reserved for the large group! We asked why we were not informed of this before check in and got no reasonable explanation whatsoever! So our whole stay we were relegated to one restaurant which was on the coral side (we were unable to use the second option the whole time we were there). The noise during the first day was surprisingly loud. They had a large sound system with subwoofers playing rave style music on the beach that made relaxing on the beach quite impossible. They had large parties for the group (that we were made aware that we were not welcome to attend or even walk through) that went on until 12 midnight! Loud bass that literally made it hard to talk at normal levels and we were on the 10th floor! The one night we were able to get to sleep at 11pm (by turning the tv up load to cover the noise of the party below us) were were awakened by professional fireworks launched from the beach at 11:45pm 100 yards off of our balcony that startled us out of bed from the explosions! No employees warned us that this was coming! Could not get back to sleep for over an hour after that. Entertainment is a big factor for us when choosing a location so we were dismayed that the theater which was advertised to have nightly shows was OFF LIMITS TO US as it was reserved for the private group the whole time we were there! We did not feel comfortable even exploring the resort property and conference center during the day as other couples told us they walked through and were told by the group that “it was a private event” and “you can’t be here”….these were Iberostar club members! Other club members we met told us they were not notified of the group taking over the resort (for the 7th consecutive year we found out) either! We made the best of it since re-booking and moving to a different property wasn’t feasible for us. I will say the employees were great and from the looks on their faces were as not impressed as we were with having to put on a smile and explain to us why we were not told ahead of time that 85% of the resort and 5 of the 7 restaurants were off limits to us. Also on many occasions there were children on the adult coral side using the volleyball court and walking along the pool. After an hour or so the staff had them leave reluctantly after an adult they were with was arguing that they were guests and weren’t hurting anything. We research thoroughly and choose our destinations wisely after reading reviews. On several occasions when we called the front desk to complain about the loud noise at night and to ask when the noisy parties might , the front desk did not even answer the phone. It went to a voicemail! When I inquired about a manager to speak to, there was never one on duty that we were able to speak with! My wife and I both filled out surveys, explaining our dismay about not being told that we wouldn’t be able to use most of the resort and restaurants. My wife wrote a letter to Iberostar and we were hoping.for some explanation/compensation/partial refund but it has been over a week since we wrote the letter (email). And so far I have received no response! Other couples we were with were a lot angrier than we were and used the word fraud to describe the actions of the hotel. We paid a lot of money for the Iberostar experience and we’re short changed! If they would have told us ahead of time, we could’ve booked another Iberostar property where we could utilize the whole resort. Unfortunately, we never got that option and the fact that corporate will not even respond to us has ensured that when we book one of our multiple trips a year, Iberostar will be crossed off the list of properties to consider! I advise anyone booking to ask if there will be large groups and to make sure that the property will be accessible, and the theater willbe open to all patrons of the resort not just a select group!

Deceptive practices plus poor food and spa experiences!

Beware: Deceptive practices, poor food and spa, overshadow otherwise nice property: should have believed the reviews I read before hand. This was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve had in decades of travel. While there were a handful of exceptional staff members who provided genuinely great service, the overall experience was defined by repeated misrepresentation and poor accountability. The most serious issue: my reservation was changed without my knowledge or consent from a standard qualifying stay into a promotional stay, which removed my IHG points and elite credit. This was never disclosed, and it only became apparent after checkout. I contacted both Iberostar and IHG countless times following my stay and received little to no response. The only time I saw any movement was after escalating and mentioning filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, which is something I have never had to do before and did not take lightly. Additionally, I booked a high-floor oceanfront suite and was instead placed on the first floor with no acknowledgment or recovery. The spa experience was disorganized and unacceptable. Appointments confirmed in advance did not exist upon arrival, amenities were missing or nonfunctional, and a discount that was promised was later denied. The “concierge” area is in reality a timeshare sales operation. Guests are approached with what appears to be a complimentary offer (in my case, a massage), which turns into a high-pressure sales pitch for a very expensive (30K+) membership. The interaction felt misleading and uncomfortable. Food quality across the property was also consistently poor, with overly salted dishes and limited appealing options, especially at the pool and buffet. The store on property charges US$20 for eight tampons, which is price gouging. While at morning yoga, a pool attendant was watching TikTok videos, and when I kindly asked him to stop to focus and hear the yoga instructor he rolled his eyes at me and there will also broken nails and shards of metal where we were supposed to be practicing barefoot. The property itself is clean and visually appealing, and again, some staff members were excellent. However, the combination of deceptive practices, lack of transparency, and failure to respond or resolve issues makes it impossible to recommend.
