Apr 22, 2026A Great Choice In Panama City
We just spent a week at the Hotel Riu Plaza in Panama City, Panama. It was our first time at a Riu and our first time in Panama City. It is a large, busy hotel run with incredible efficiency. The restaurants move smoothly. The breakfast buffet is a steal! Our room on the 16th floor provided a good view. The service, in the restaurants, at the well-maintained pool, and the cleaning staff, were uniformly friendly and helpful. Located in the financial district, you can either walk or UBER to anywhere in Panama City.

The location is great within walking distance to restaurants, located in downtown panama. Taxi/ubers are very cheap. Riu hotel was nice, excellent breakfast buffet. Hallways/rooms carpet smell like old trash/humidity/wet old floors, mildew. Beds, pillows very comfortable. Rooms views are great. Pool and bar are very nice, good food and music.

Staff unaccommodating since they have no agency. Huge hotel with a mess hall for a breakfast area. Can’t make a local call from the room! Need to do it from reception! How hilarious?!

Great Stay
Great place to stay while in Panama. Hotel conveniently located or in the middle of everything you might want to do while visiting. Breakfast provided a variety of options that were delicious. Didn't visit the bar but did visit the 24 hour 'store'. The cheesecake and pecan pie were AMAZING, both are worth trying. Would definitely stay here again.

The room was clean and a good size for two adults. However, the floor was uneven and I stubbed my toe on the pass way from the carpet to the tile floor! It was about a quarter inch difference in height.
