Having previously stayed in an AMAZING RIU hotel in Mexico I had HIGH hopes for this place. Yeah not so much. I will start with the good. The hotel decor is beautiful. The area with the 2 pools is lovely with an at your seat bar service. The only draught beer options in the hotel, though, are Amstel and Paulaner. There is also another RIU guests only beach club area with another bar which also has a pool and overlooks the beach and ocean. It is here we met Anca. She deserves special mention as a VERY friendly person who remembered our drinks from the previous day and made a special effort to develop a rapport with us. She needs a payrise immediately. The rest of the staff were generally fine but it was clear they were just doing their jobs with fake smiles and no extra effort. The restaurant staff were particularly confrontational. A big deal was made of us bringing our own water bottle when we were having dinner in the buffet area. This offended them deeply. Bear in mind they don't offer you free water at your table like pretty much every other restaurant in the world...you have to buy their bottled water. When I questioned this I was given the laughable answer that if they let guests bring their own water (it was 27 degrees outside) then they would also have to let guests bring their own wine and coca cola. Can you see logic there?? I can't anyway. It was made even funnier when I saw a free water dispenser at breakfast the following morning. So yes they are THAT money hungry. This same morning at breakfast one of their waiting staff, I didn't get his name, but he was the older man, balding with greyish facial hair, acted VERY strangely towards me. My wife had gone down for breakfast and I joined her about 15 mins after. So I got some food, sat at the table with her and began eating. She then got up to get something else and while she was gone, this strange man arrived and I heard "SEÑOR!!" I turned to him and he was just staring annoyed at me. He started tapping his finger on the table beside me and then pointed to his eye as if to say "I am watching you". No words were spoken. He then started walking away while still staring at me. I asked "What is wrong?" and he just said "There is no problem...coffee". I still have no idea what was going on. The food for both breakfast and dinner was lovely. Although any dessert I tried was dry and tasteless. However the night we had dinner in Olé was completely different. Amazing food. Staff that were actually friendly and the guitarist was excellent. Room was pretty standard. I was in room 2007. When the fridge was cooling it sounded like an airplane taking off, when the ceiling fan is on for a while it starts squeaking which sounds very loud at night time. The toilet seat was broken. The general impression I got was that they consider themselves to be a significantly better hotel than they actually are. For the price they charge there is not a chance I would stay here again. They let the RIU name down badly.

May 24, 2026A hotel you would struggle to fault
This is one of the most attentive places we have stayed and we go away often. The staff are fantastic. Our maid broke a deodorant bottle by accident. Things happen. Not an issue. We got a bottle of fizz complimentary for this. Very thoughtful. And actually wasn’t necessary but a lovely gesture. We sat having a drink and a staff member seemed mortified there was a bit of bird poop on the table. Cleaned it away. Silly little things but we both said we don’t think we’ve stayed anywhere where they are totally bothered about making the experience the best. Honestly fully rate this as a lovely place to stay. Not too far to walk along the beach to restaurants if you want to eat out too. Private beach club. Good sized swimming pools.

Another fabulous stay.
The Arecas is a lovely hotel. Staff are amazing. Antonio who was our waiter through most days was just so nice. Reception staff, Carmen, Ivan and Vera all exceeded expectations, dealing with our minor issues very well. When you’re in your late 70,s,you just need people like these who just get on and deal with situations with confidence and minimal fuss. Room lovely, kept beautifully clean. Food great. At least three meat dishes, and three fish dishes every day, plus mass of salads, cold meats, cold fish plus soups and huge variety of vegetables in all styles. Personally love the canarian potatoes. Booked again for December. Can’t fault it.

Arecas home from home
The staff are amazing from reception to the cleaners. Nothing too much trouble. A great edition is Felix. Always happy and a joy to be around. The beach bar aloha should be renamed Anca’s. Without this wonderful host it wouldn’t be the same . It’s worth all the steps up and down to the beach bar to make our holiday. If you want a relaxing and chilling stay this is the place. It’s an adult only hotel enjoy this fantastic hotel and staff. The restaurant is buffet style there is always something for everyone . Drinks are reasonably priced so it’s a win win situation . If you want to go more lively place then a walk along the coast or a small taxi ride to adeje about 8 euro. 10 to americas. There are a few bars close to the hotel and some restaurants just a short walk away.
