Apr 21, 2026The horrible stay
We had a horrible experience at this hotel. First of all, we stayed at this hotel in 3 different rooms 3 times and total of 8 nights on our trip. The first night I booked a 2 king room and the experience was pleasant, although you really don’t want to see the window because it disgusts you with the view of bird poop on the window (pseudo balcony). The room was spacious and clean. The bed was comfortable and we had a walk in shower. There is only one small elevator running, and being a gold member we are only allowed continental breakfast, and had to pay extra 5£ to have the regular breakfast buffet which is different from all the Hilton Hitels that we’ve stay at all over Europe. The second stay we were placed in a double deluxe room supposed to be upgraded room, but we could not sleep well. First of all the rooms are so small, the mattress spring makes sound whenever you turn in bed or move. Same window view of bird poop which is so digusting. The tub was so high and slippery, and I have to be very careful getting in and out of the tub being one who has physical disability. Same thing with the issue with breakfast buffet, and even when it was arranged upon check in that I will pay 5£ extra for the regular breakfast buffet, I have to go back to the reception desk to have this corrected so I can get in the buffet. Mind you there’s only one small elevator working in this whole entire hotel so I have to take the steps up and down to do this since they’re their buffet is on negative one level. The breakfast buffet by the way, doesn’t give you a lot of choices and it doesn’t change every day. For vegetable, she only get cucumber or sliced tomato. We have to take the steps up and down because of the only one small working elevator they have for the entire hotel. Luckily they placed us on the second level, but it’s a hassle when you’re checking out with all your luggage is and you have to wait 20 minutes toget into the elevator. The third time we stayed, again we were placed in a double room that I booked with a high bathtub shower and was very slippery. At this time I fell. I slipped and fell. I slipped andfell and hit my eyes face on the tub. I sustained a black eye and pain on my ankle and shoulder. For We requested for a mat for the tub, but we were told that this was not available at their hotel. I had to be assisted by my friend while I’m naked to get in and out of the tub safely after the fall. Same issue with the elevator you have to wait about 20 minutes to get in and this time we were placed on the third floor, which is harder for me to go up and down the steps with my physical disability. The room that we were placed in also has four more steps down to access our room from the third floor, which is again difficult for me with my disability, and getting our luggage up the steps during checkout was a challenge. Same issue with the elevator you have to wait 20 minutes before you can get in. The window still has bird poop view. The breakfast buffet choices did not change and is limited compared to other Hilton hotels that I’ve stayed at all over Europe. The staff especially in the reception area are not friendly, nor accommodating. This is the o ly hilton hotel in Europe that stands out in a negative way. I will never stay here again nor do I recommend this hotel.

Apr 19, 2026Good but a few little niggles
Booked a delux room with two double beds at a cost of £530 for the night. Hotel in a good location for trains and shops/bars etc. We were going to the playhouse and that was about a 15 min walk away. We ate in the bar area and food was very nice. My niggles were the following: Maybe it was my fault for not seeing it on the description, but at £530 for the night, I expected a walk in shower, not a shower over the bath with a shower curtain. I understand the problems when lifts are out of order, but as there was only one lift working we found we waited quite long periods of time for a lift to arrive, and then spent many minutes in the blooming thing because so many staff were using it too. At one point my daughter and I were pushed right up against the lift walls as a member of staff insisted on getting in with a trolly full of bedding. Surely there would be a staff elevator? Breakfast was alright but again I felt it wasn't worth the cost of the room. Everything was buffet which is fine, but we had to stand quite a while at the one and only coffee machine (the other was out of order) to get our own coffee. I do think it would have been nice for them to serve coffee. No side plates for making our own toast so large plates had to be used and then no one at any time came to remove used plates from our small table even though they kept walking past. Again, nothing major, just things that take the edge off and start to make you regret paying what we did when there are many cheaper hotels in the area. All in all a pleasant enough hotel in a good location but I doubt I would stay again.

Apr 15, 2026Stay in a Budget Hotel Instead
I tried an expensive hotel like Hilton Edinburgh Carlton as a treat and paid with a gift voucherI was given as a present. It’s an easy walking distance from Waverley Station; about 10 minutes. The lobby is one of those dark brown places where you can’t really see much. At 5:30pm, there was quite a queue to check-in but more staff was made available quite quickly. On receiving my keycard I was told that I’d need to take the lift to the second floor (only one lift was working and queues so I took the stairs), walk as far as I could toward room 256 (a circuitous route of a couple of minutes) take the small lift down to ground zero, turn right through two fire doors to my room (004). What a palaver! The room was very large and smart looking with a double bed (with a hillock in the middle). The bathroom was large and well equipped with nice toiletries and fluffy towels. But on trying to watch the news channel on the television, it became clear the satellite signal was too weak and the TV was unwatchable being constantly frozen. I tried the analogue source with no success; very annoying. The view from my window was less than ideal; scaffolding! On getting ready to go out for a meal with friends, the press-down plug in my sink became stuck and I couldn’t drain the water out of my sink. I tried everything to accurate it but to no avail. Thus for my whole stay my sink gradually filled up with dirty handwashing-water and toothpaste spit. It was midnight by the time I returned and the prospect of telling reception and waiting until goodness knows when did not appeal. In the morning I left an explanatory note and apology for the poor cleaning staff who would have to deal with it. The breakfast was very nice and the staff helpful This was an atmospherically ‘cold’ hotel, with distant reception staff; I felt I was on my own and I didn’t feel ‘special’ for staying in an upmarket hotel @ £200+ for my stay. I wish I’d stayed in a Premier Inn since I would’ve relieved almost identical accommodation, everything would’ve work and it’d have been about £50 cheaper.

Fabulous Bat staff!
The staff in the bar area - Nick, Katie and Ruby - were amazing!! Charming and accommodating and so attentive and understanding! They made our stay so special - we can’t wait to come back and visit more of Scotland and stay at this hotel!!
