    A wonderful week in paradise

Visited as a family of 5 over Easter. The rooms are gorgeous. Very spacious and clean. The mini bar has sprite, coke, beer and water. There were also 3 bottles of spirits in our room. The beach and pool area are great and always plenty of sun loungers. We struggled to get restaurant reservations but not sure if that was because we were a larger party. The buffet however was plentiful and delicious nonetheless. It was often difficult to get drinks with our meals and staff didn’t always offer them very efficiently. The food vans at lunch were great and added even more variety. The coffee shop was awesome; it’s just a shame it doesn’t open until 8am. They do amazing crepes and pancakes too. The white party was great fun and there was entertainment every night but we didn’t go to anything else. We found the majority of the staff friendly, helpful and welcoming but there was the odd one who was rude and grumpy.

    BIG RESORT AND BEAUTIFUL

This resort is absolutely beautiful. My room was in the 86 building and it was PERFECT. Since it was right beside the First Bus Stop. I love that this place has a trolley. so here we go Pros and Cons Pros/Cons BEACH: Beautiful , but the entire 7 days it was a yellow flag which means WAVES.. They have a catamaran that is free but was not available due to waves. They have the parachute and banana boat and tubbing (being pulled from a boat on a big couch ) CON: none ROOM: Absolutely beautiful. The Bedroom and Tv were on the upper level and the pull out couch, table and chairs, bathroom and balcony on the main level. only 2 stairs up to bedroom. CON: none FOOD: I am very picky buy ALWAYS found something great to eat. The Indian restaurant was amazing. The Mexican was OK. The Pizza Restaurant was good. Didn't go to the other ones. The Buffet on the resort is HUGE and always packed but the food is good. The beach buffet was very small but always something to grab. The food trucks are a hit or miss. CON: The food at the 24/7 bar - what I had. Wings and Chicken Burger - I didn't like. ICE CREAM BAR amazing - opens 6-11pm. POOL: Main pool is beautiful but way too deep if you have small kids. There is a pool bar. BUSY. I suggest on days you want to relax go to the RELAX POOL by condos 75. Very quiet. no one really knows its there, so its perfect. and there is a bar. KIDS : Family suites look cool and there is a whole splash pad on beach and a water park in front on their rooms. CON: They should NOT BE ALLOWED in the 24/7 pub after 9pm. If you are not a KID PERSON - DON'T GO HERE. But that goes for all family resorts STAFF: This is where it gets messy. Some days are great some are bad some are AWFUL. This resort is HUGE but understaffed. Sometimes you would go a whole meal without service. And when you do get your pop or water your already done. Beach service is not as bad. Bar service is fine I guess. Majority of the staff DO NOT SPEAK ENGLISH. Even some of the waitress don't speak English so its very frustrating when you are trying to order. 24/7 PUB : The staff gave me bags of ice for my room and drinks to bring up. CON: Karaoke is busy as hell so put your song up as soon as it starts. The service is good but slow and they do not service the second floor you have to go down to the bar. Understaffed really . The pool table is $5 USD FOR ONE GAME that is INSANE. But we played anyway. One time we didn't even get all the balls but the next day they gave us our money back. THE CHILDREN PLAY THE POOL AT NIGHT UGH!!!! EXCURSIONS :Catamaran was amazing. Monkey Ranch was ok but I suggest going to Monkey LAND for your moneys worth. CONS: DONT USE YOUR CREDIT CARD your bank/card company charge you a surcharge of $120 - USE CASH . American $ not Canadian. PEACOCKS: They are EVERY WHERE, and you can feed them crackers or whatever really . CONS: THEY SCREAM ALL DAY AND NIGHT. bring ear plugs or a rain app This is also really depending on where your condo is. ENTERTAINMENT : So when I went the theater was CLOSED for a convention which is really unfair. So instead they had the entertainment team at the outside patio near the lobby. They did a Silent Disco Party which was OK. They did a Michael Jackson Show which was amazing . I've seen them a million times but this one was the best. They did a 4pm FOAM party in the main pool and one day they did it in the kids water park. CONS: From 630-9 there is someone playing live music but it is VERY SLOW DINNER TIME MUSIC. Like a trumpet one day, a piano man one day a singer one day, ALL SLOW. But if you like that kinda stuff then you won’t mind. I was falling asleep. CAFÉ : very good they have all types of crepes and all kinds of coffee related drinks hot and cold frappe lattes etc. CON: NONE Overall this resort is beautiful and I would definitely go again. But if you are a KAREN don't go here. There really is nothing to complain about and I would ABSOLUTLEY go again. This is just my honest opinion for those reading.

    Overall great vacation

Transport to resort - used Nexus, as recommended by the resort. Was great. New van, easy transfer. Booked private for our family of 5. Check in - Easy except for an issue specific to us. We ran into a snag with our room assignment. (skip this part if you aren't trying to select your room ahead of time.) I had selected rooms via their website to allow us as a family to be on one floor. We did not want to leave it to chance and we willing to pay the extra $$. The 2 weeks before arriving I began to get an email stating I had modified the rooms (I did not). It would not allow me to select any other rooms. Later in the day I would get another email telling me my rooms were confirmed. This happened every day, at the same time, for 8 days in a row. I called the resort but could not get through. I emailed them the first day - no response. I emailed several days later to every email address I could find. Got one response saying the rooms were confirmed. Again later after that email I got one indicating they were cancelled again. I sent more emails, still no reply. On arrival we did not have the rooms I had selected (big surprise). They offered us rooms in the same building but on different floors. We are a family of 5, 2 adults, 3 kids though the oldest is 19 so “adult” by resort standards. The other two are 15 and 7. The plan was to have them in a room and us next door. After speaking with the check in desk there was nothing we could do about it and had to take it for 1 night and go back to the concierge the next day to see if we could change rooms. We were able to change rooms and were on the same floor, next to each other for the rest of the trip which was great. It was a very difficult way to start the vacation however and I did not feel at all relaxed until sometime later that second day because of the stress of it all. Rooms - We had 2 Platinum rooms, king size bed with murphy bed. It was great. The room was lovely, the bed is firm and pillows were meh, but we all were fine. The kids were find and the littlest had no problem on the murphy bed. That said, I would not want to sleep on that as an adult, It was a springy, firm and not very comfortable mattress. But again for a 7 yo, it was exactly what we needed. Pool - Platinum - We spent most time at the Platinum pool. It would get busy, but we were able to get at least 2 chairs every day. There were times though that people would have to put their stuff just in a pile because there were no chairs. We got most of our drinks from Carlos at the swim up bar. The drinks are bigger here than the main pool (fancier plastic cups). There was usually some entertainment at the pool around 12, some water bike, water aerobics, live music etc. There were other kids, not a huge amount and no one was very rambunctious in my opinion but we didn’t go expecting a quiet adult only area. If you expect that, you’ll be disappointed. Main - Lots of room, we had no trouble with chairs. Tough to get to the swim up bar and the drinks are much smaller than platinum. We played some ping pong, giant chess, volleyball and just hung out. It was nice but we still spent most time in the Platinum pool. Family waterslide area - We went one day. It was not very busy, there were plenty of chairs. We had no trouble at the bar. The disappointing part was that we as adults were not allowed on the slides etc. Our son at 7 still wants us to play with him. Also there is no pool, its just splashing so after getting hot, you can’t take a dip unless you go under the splash buckets. It was fine and if we had a couple younger kids I think it would’ve been perfect. Just wasn’t what we needed. Our 7yo didn’t even ask to go back. Grounds - Beautiful. We enjoyed walking through the Mangrove walk several times. We loved all the wildlife in and around the areas. when people say tons of peacocks…. they mean TONS of them. If you are bothered by loud bird noises however, you may not enjoy the peacocks. They are very loud. We have chickens and a rooster at home so it didn’t phase us, certainly not enough to keep me awake or wake me too early. Tram - At busy times such as around dinners it can be harder to get. We usually ended up walking which really wasn’t tough. It took a few minutes. If you have mobility issues then you may have to wait a bit more. Food - We at at the Platinum buffet (Chopin) for at least one breakfast, lunch and dinner. It was fine. I have no idea what people are talking about when they say the food was “inedible.” It’s a buffet. there was always something that they make fresh - omelet, pasta, grilled meat/seafood etc. We ate one lunch at the main buffet and they definitely had a larger selection. We may have chosen to eat there more often but we were very close to Chopin. We ate several breakfasts at Trapiche on the beach. It was lovely to eat here. Standard breakfast buffet stuff. We did breakfast once at PBG, it was sit down and menu ordering, it was good we just liked being on the beach with the buffet better for our family. A la carte Samsara - very good indian food. yes, actually good. We had lamb, chicken, chana masala, samosas and it was sooo good. Foccacia - Pizza was outstanding. Actual wood fired pizza. We tried a few pasta dishes too. They were good, but the pizza outshone anything else. Wasabi - Kids liked the poke bowl, we got several rolls. They were tasty. Not the best, not the worst. Prob least favorite but that’s only because the other places were so good. Hacienda - Very good. Tacos were good, I loved the al pastor but a little disappointed in the carnitas. The steak was delicious. Chips and salsa/guacamole a the table was demolished by the whole fam. Would we go back? - I’m not sure. We have only been as a couple before, the was the first trip with the kids so hard to compare in some ways. Overall it was a great resort, the kids loved it. Food was decent but overall I felt that we’ve stayed at better resorts. That being said, the other resorts were out of our price range for this trip so for the $$ it’s pretty great. TL:DR - Great resort, no issues with food. peacocks are loud. Platinum for us was the way to go.
